Danner Tachyon Review AR 670-1 Compliant

The New Danner Tachyon
For the last year I have been wearing a pair of minimalist training boots by Belleville, and I’ve been looking for a replacement. A few weeks ago, I opted for a pair of Nike Field Leather boots, but after all of the hype, the Nike’s failed to meet my needs (and I question their regulatory compliance).

**3/11/2015 UPDATE: The Nike SFB Field Leather Boots are now in fact authorized and AR 670-1 compliant. When they were first released, Nike manufactured the boots with Synthetic leather instead of regulation-friendly cattle-hide. As a result, the first wave of boots were recalled. After going back to the drawing board, our friends at US Patriot Tactical, educated Nike on making the Nike SFB Field Leather Boots AR 670-1 Compliant. Here is a link offering in-depth comparison between the original version and the remodeled version that is now fully compliant. Additionally, check out our very own review of the Nike SFB Field Leather boots here.
Now back to where I left off in my review of the new Danner Tachyons..
Danner Tachyon Review AR 670-1 Compliant
What can I say, I have a fetish for minimalist, lightweight boots.
I’ve had a pair of Danner Tachyon’s sitting in the garage. These are my “yard boots,” you know the boots you put on for unsavory chores… They use to be my favorite garrison boots, until the recent update to AR 670-1.
The original version of the Tachyon’s we’re revolutionary and represented Danner’s attempt to modernize the age old combat boot. They began with the typical clunky Danner boot, and removed all of the fat. Providing us with an extremely comfortable and lightweight boot.
I mean these boots are AWESOME. They’re comfortable, and extremely high quality, especially for an imported boot. Hell, I loved them, but it wasn’t meant to be as I discovered the synthetic leather uppers. F$^%, I’m wearing a pair of unauthorized boots.
So apparently Danner went back to the drawing board to redesign the Tachyon. Now redesigned to meet the stringent standards of AR 670-1, the new Tachyon’s are one of the lightest army boots currently on the market. The fast drying upper is now 100% leather, making the boot authorized for wear with the ACU. The boot has a 3-layer comfort system and speed laces that provide a snug, comfortable fit. The Danner Tachyon features a compliant rubber outsole for improved traction and abrasion resistance.
