The Top 5 Best Military Boots for Women Review

Last week I was in the post exchange looking over the many varieties of boots that are now available to servicemen and servicewomen. I was approached by a young servicewoman who asked, “which boots do think are the best?” After talking with her for a few minutes about her day-to-day responsibilities, I made a recommendation that I know will help her out.I go over a few in detail in this review post but here is a larger list for you to choose from.

Here is a list of the Top 5 Best Military Boots for Women Review

Women now serve in more Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) than ever before. Many of the newly available MOSs require women to perform many more physical activities than in the past. For this reason, women need to choose carefully when deciding on the footwear in which they will work, train, and deploy.

In choosing a boot you should weigh a few factors, including how you’ll be using the boot, the boot’s weight, the environment you’ll be operating in, the boot’s rigidity (how stiff the boot is), and how long it will take to break in the boot. Below are my top 5 picks, in no particular order, based on those factors. Additionally, all are AR 670-1 compliant. Keep reading and key in on our review of the top 5 best military boots for women review.

1. Danner Women’s TFX Rough Out Military Boots

Boot Use

This is a general purpose boot that will get just about any job done. Whether you’re moving out on a forced march with the grunts, or moving into position in a mountainous region of the world, this boot will serve you well. The TRX boots are built with a rugged, aggressive outsole and with Danner’s lightweight TERRA FORCE X system, which means you won’t be wishing for more traction.

Boot Weight

This boot is only 52 oz. per pair. This isn’t the lightest boot in its class, but it falls in the middle-weight category.

Operational Environment

The TFX sports a full-grain leather upper (rough out) which is ideal for hot (desert) operating conditions; it is also 100% waterproof and breathes well due to its Gore-Tex liner. This boot is designed to keep your feet comfortable and dry in almost any environment.

Boot Rigidity

This boot holds the middle ground in combat boot rigidity. The TFX has a fiberglass shank that will diminish the load a soldier feels during forced marches or operations in mountainous areas. Soldiers expecting to carry heavy loads should take a serious look at this boot.

Break-in Time

Short. It’s not a sneaker but within a week or so the boot will form to your foot and you will be happy you chose this boot. It should also be noted that this boot is known for having plenty of toe room but is also snug enough to maintain just the right amount of support.

2. Danner Women’s Tanicus

Boot Use

This is another general purpose boot. The Tanicus is suitable for most work and is quite comfortable; Danner added a layer of cushioning and a dampening cup to the heel.

Boot Weight

Wow! This boot is only 35 oz. per pair (light weight). Smaller women might prefer this boot because every ounce counts when you wear it into combat.

Operational Environment

This boot is good for dry, warm climates, but would function very well in the Ft. Bragg woods or Ft. Campbell’s rolling hills. Its lining is designed to pull away moisture from your feet and deliver full breathability, even when operating in extreme temperatures.

Boot Rigidity

This boot is comparable to other boots in its rigidity. What I found interesting is that Danner went one step further than the standard fiberglass shank and added extra shock absorption and reinforced protection. As someone with ankle and knee problems from years of service in the infantry, I am a firm believer in shock and ankle support. This boot makes the mark in my book.

Break-in Time

Short. Danner has really gone all out in making sure they supply women with medium widths, and half sizes. Better fitting boots reduce break-in time. The boots upper is made of full-grain leather and rugged 1000 Denier nylon. Danner uses a polyurethane foot-bed which offers solid fatigue prevention. These boots will mold to your feet in about a week.

3. Belleville 390 Hot Weather Combat Boot

Boot Use

This boot will last. Although designed specifically for the desert, it will serve you well during your average day in the field or garrison. This is a true combat boot with a full-grain tan cowhide leather upper and Cordura nylon fabric insets. This style of boot is seen as primarily an infantry boot because of its durability in rugged terrain.

Boot Weight

This boot is 61 oz. per pair (medium weight). The only reason I recommend these to women is because these boots should last. They will serve you well if you’re constantly moving through rough terrain, and provide maximum protection. If your job destroys boots, you should buy a pair of these.

Operational Environment

Although advertised as a hot-weather boot, this is truly a multi-environment boot. It will work equally well in the desert and in the mountains. This boot sports a full-grain leather upper (rough out) which is ideal for hot (desert) operating conditions; it is also 100% waterproof and breathes well because of its Gore-Tex liner. This boot is designed to keep your feet comfortable and dry in almost any environment.

Boot Rigidity

This boot is rigid, which makes it great for hikes and carrying heavy loads. What’s neat about this boot is that it combines that good, old-fashioned, thick leather with VANGUARD running shoe sole construction. Moving in this boot, under a load, is like driving a really fast tank. You’re completely protected but can move like a light-weight.

Break-in Time

Long. No high-speed-low-drag stuff here, because, let’s face it, it’s a real leather boot. Leather boots take at least three weeks to properly break in. It doesn’t matter that this boot has a polyurethane cushion midsole and polyurethane removable inserts. It’s a real leather boot and will take time to break in.

4. Belleville Hot Weather Flight and Combat Vehicle (Tanker) Boot

Boot Use

Now were moving into the more specialized boots. Women are finding themselves in specialized fields every day and require the same tools (boots) as men. This boot looks like a general-purpose boot, but it’s far from it. It’s specifically designed for flight crews and tankers (armor).

Boot Weight

This boot is about 50 oz. per pair (mid-light weight). Women will like the weight of this boot because they won’t have to lug around extra weight while crawling in and out of armored vehicles or while performing duties as flight crew.

Operational Environment

As stated before this boot is designed for flight crews and tankers. As such, it is U.S. Army Flight, U.S. Army Combat Vehicle (Tanker), and ACU approved. The benefit here is that you don’t need to buy more than one kind of boot. The boot’s upper material is made from full-grain tan cowhide leather and Nomex blended flame-resistant fabric. It also has an X-STATIC anti-microbial odor-reducing lining and cushion midsole made of polyurethane. The outsole is made of 100% Vibram Sierra rubber. With all of these features, this is a great boot for flight crews and armor crew members.

Boot Rigidity

This boot has a fiberglass shank, like the previous boots, but it’s not designed for field use. It is more of an industrial-type boot, and I can’t recommend it for rough terrain or heavy loads.

Break-in Time

I would say that you could perform your duties as flight crew or armor crew, without the discomfort of a new boot, within about a week. This is because the boot is built on the VANGUARD® running shoe sole construction. If you are looking for a more malleable boot, I would give it a month before that goal was met.

5. Reebok Stealth Women’s Composite Toe Side Zipper Boot RB894

Boot Use

Reebok built this boot from the ground up and it could be the best multi-purpose built boot on the planet. The Stealth is designed for operators who stand all day, traverse mountains, and, oddly enough, play with heavy equipment or work in shops.

Boot Weight

This boot weighs a mere 15 oz. (ultra-Light weight)! The boot is perfect for women looking for very light footwear.

Operational Environment

As stated above, this is a multipurpose boot. Reebok has built a boot that can be used in many working environments. Specifically, the boot has a dual density, Mountain Trail rubber outsole that offers solid stability and traction. Surprisingly enough, it has a non-metallic, ANSI-rated composite safety toe and slip- and oil-resistant sole guards that protect against slips and falls. The boot is also abrasion and chemical-resistant, so you can use this boot anywhere.

Boot Rigidity

This boot is a super hybrid of functionality. Reebok’s Shock Eliminator technology absorbs the impact of walking, running or hiking. Difficult or jagged terrain isn’t an issue for this boot and its suede leather and ballistic nylon uppers fit snugly. The Stealth uses an EVA-cushioned midsole for an extra layer of protection and has removable F2A polyurethane cushioned inserts. This boot will definitely help your body support heavy loads over long periods of time.

Break-in Time

Short. This boot is really a combat sneaker, requiring almost no break-in time because of the high-tech materials and solid construction that protects your arches and heels. Foot pain won’t be an issue with this boot and an extra wide toe allows for more wiggle room.
